I have 3 cats and have never had to take one of them in for major surgery until last week. After I returned home from a trip, I found one of my cats at home hiding under the bed vomiting frequently and violently. I brought him in to see Dr. Michelle Metcalf. She was very compassionate, professional and comforting. Because my cat had a history of chewing cords, strings and straps, we were very worried about him eating something he shouldn't have.  She performed surgery on him to remove a foreign body in his intestines ( a piece of a strap that was rolled up to the size of a peanut m & m). I was terrified and so worried about my boy. His surgery went well and he recovered immediately. I loved the staff and the office was inviting and very clean. Thank you to everyone who helped me and saved my boy! I would recommend you try this clinic!

If you are a cat owner you know how hard it is to go to the vet. It's so stressful on them. Cheshire Cat only deals with cats, so the office isn't full of barking dogs or squawking birds and since this is all they deal with they are very knowledgeable about cats.

Nice staff, great doctor too. Always helpful.

The doctor and staff have worked hard and taken good care of my little sick kitten. When we found him he was 1lb and so, so sick. He is now a happy, healthy 10 pound boy and he is the most loving kitty I've ever had.

I've been taking my cats to the Cheshire Cat Clinic for over ten years, and was a client of the previous owner at the Pacific Beach location before he retired and Dr. Middleton bought his practice.

"Dr. Ann" and the staff have always shown the utmost concern for the welfare and health of our cats, and though she is profoundly deaf, she always make sure that she has answered all our questions and addressed all of our concerns.  She has "gone the extra mile" to help us with cats who were basically dying of old age, and while the clinic may be a bit expensive (though I have nothing current to compare it with), she has also helped us find less costly sources for medication for cats with chronic conditions.

My partner did have a less-than-satisfactory experience with the "bedside manner" of another vet who was with the clinic for a short while, but I understand that person is long gone, and we have had good experiences with other doctors who have worked at the clinic.

Though I originally chose this clinic partly becasue it was on my way to work, I am retired now and it's a ten mile drive from my home.  But both my partner and I have been so favorably impressed that we haven't been inclined to look for a veterinary clinic closer to home.   Except for emergency services when Cheshire Cat was closed, we have never felt any incentive to go anywhere else.

Recently I was searching for some business information on Yelp and came across several negative comments on the Cheshire Cat Clinic.  I became disheartened knowing that someone may truly believe these negative comments and miss the opportunity to have the services of the Cheshire Cat Clinic manage the health and well-being of their precious pets.

I have had the privilege to have the Cheshire Cat Clinic care for my cats for more than 30 years.  My cats were NEVER mistreated by staff members or medical conditions misdiagnosed by the doctors.  Recently, my cat's illness required a more extensive evaluation and treatment and Dr. Middleton readily referred me to a specialist for further evaluation.  Dr. Middleton and her staff always treated me (we owners are more stressed out than our pets!!!) and my cat with kindness while providing the best possible medical attention and treatment.

I just started bringing my new kitten to Cheshire a couple months ago.  At first I was overwhelemed with all the shots and things that kittens need.  I feel that the staff was very nice and helped me understand what was necessary and why.  I think everyone was very friendly and the doctor was wonderful.  I have never had someone be so gentle and thorough with my pets.  When I take my dog to her vet I feel like the vet only spends a few minutes with us then rushes us out!  I am very pleased to have a cat only place to come to.  I know my cat is in the best hands possible and he will be coming to Cheshire for many years to come!

I moved to CA three years ago and settled in Pacific Beach.  I brought my two cats with me from VA.  I was thrilled when I learned that there was a cat clinic in PB.  They were great with my cats,  answered all my questions and  were able to give my one cat fluids when I brought him in.
The following year I moved to Rancho Bernado and still traveled down to Clairemont to have my cats seen  The techs are great and they are always able to work with my work schedule.  I lost my older cat that year and the vet and staff were wonderful.
The next year I moved to Escondido where I am now living and would not at this point take my pets anywhere else.  I still travel down there every two weeks for my cat to get fluids.  To me it is cost effective because he is getting the best care.

After reading the earlier reviews, I was hesitant to take my cats to Cheshire Cat Clinic but my cats are very nervous before and I knew a all cat place would be the least stressful. I'm glad we chose to take our chances.

Dr. Middleton was nice and knowledgeable. Yes, she was cautious because my one cats was being aggressive and swatting but I wouldn't blame her. I was scared too!! The staff was pleasant and helpful. Prices were not cheap but what vet is? I think they were in line with other places I've been. They gave me a quote before doing anything and didn't give my cat's all the shots or dewormers they'd always had at other vets because they said they were not needed.

I'll be back :)

Our two cats have been cared for by Dr. Ann Middleton and her staff at Cheshire Cat Clinic ever since Dr. Prupas left San Diego.  One of the cats is aggressive and almost impossible to handle, but Dr. Ann and her staff have managed to treat her successfully and keep her chronic illness under control.  We find the entire staff to be courteous and helpful, and we believe that our cats receive excellent care.  We feel fortunate to have this all-cat clinic available to us.  (Also, we always enjoy seeing the resident cats snoozing in their cozy spots in the lobby.)

We have been going to Cheshire, and specifically Dr. Ann Middleton, for about 10 years. We chose her clinic when she was in PB because she caters to cats (we had been using another vet that had a large dog clientele, and my cats were always terrified to go there). We have four cats, and two have special needs/health issues. I've spent a LOT of money at Cheshire over the years, and I don't feel that one penny was wasted. Contrary to other reviews, they do not over charge or try to "sell" tests that aren't needed. In fact, with the economy as bad as it is, Dr. Ann knows my work hours have been reduced and she has selected only tests that are absolutely necessary.

The staff is extremely knowledgeable. Our four cats are like our kids and we provide them with only the best care. We feel Dr. Ann does an excellent job, as does the rest of her staff.

On a personal note, when we had to put one of our cats down about 8 years ago, Dr. Ann came to our home on a Sunday and we are able to say goodbye to our sweet kitty and have her put down in the comfort of our home, without having to traumatize our cat in her final hours by putting her in the car and taking her to the vet's office. That special consideration meant the world to us during a very difficult and sad time.

We highly recommend Cheshire Cat Clinic and Dr. Ann.

We became residents of the City of San Diego in 1970 and in all the years since we have owned a variety of cats as our Houshold Pets.

When we arrived,we inquired of friends and neighbors for a goodveterinarian in the Clairemont area. We had several recommendations that indicated that the Cheshire Cat Clinic was outstanding. Based on that it became the destination for care for ourcats. At that time Dr. Lawrence was the owner and when he retired Dr. Babbitt assumed ownership until he became associated with the San Diego Humane Society.

Dr. Ann Middleton, DVM, then became the owner of Cheshire Cat Clinic. We were so very pleased that Dr. Ann was now our veterinarian aa well as the owner of the Clinic. And when the Clinic was moved to 4680 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. it even became closer to our home.
In all the years that we have entrusted our various cats (some 12 in number over the years) we have been more than pleased with their care and recommendations, for feeding, etc. Dr. Ann is certainlhy one of the most knowledgeable and caring veterinarian we have ever been associated with.
Her clinic is a pleasure to visit; her staff is excellent, knowledgeable and accomodating. Records are computerized, the facility and examination rooms are spotless and even our Senior cats seem to have a sense of "welcome" when they are taken there for exams, etc.
It is certainly a pleasure to recommend Dr. Ann, her staff and Cheshire Cat Clinic to other caring feline pet owners.

I have been taking my kitties to Cheshire Cat Center for 22 years. They have been the best. When I first took my kitty there he had been suffering from kidney stones which were misdiagnosed by another vet. Dr. Babbit was wonderful and took great care of all of my kitties from then on. When he sold the business and we moved from the area, we tried another vet who I had a terrible experience with. I immediately went back to the Cheshire Cat Center and met Dr. Ann Middleton. I cannot say enough great things about her and the staff. Dr. Ann saved my kitty's life. She performed a first time surgery that she researched diligently and also consulted with other professionals on how to perform the surgery successfully. She spent many hours of her own time. My kitty is alive and well thanks to her and her efficient and friendly staff. I would never go anywhere else. Dr. Ann is wonderful and commited to caring for animals. She is conscientious and compassionate, and takes her time with each and every patient. She also never makes outrageous charges on her bills. (Like the other vet I went to did) she goes over all services and the amounts owed before she performs them so you are informed at all times. My kitties love her and one of my cats is not easy to handle, but she has no trouble handling her at all times. Thank you Dr. Ann

i have been going to the cheshire cat clinic for approximately 26 years. it first opened in pacific beach and later moved to clairemont. i have found Dr. Ann Middleton to be extremely competent, caring and professional. she is patient and if she does not have an immediate answer, she will research it and e-mail or call with the results.

the staff is friendly, caring and always helpful. if there is a question, they will take the time to explain everything. i trust the staff and Dr. Middleton explicitly and highly recommend her! i have NEVER had a problem with either Dr. Middleton or any of her staff and HIGHLY recommend the clinic to anyone with a cat they adore!

I have been so pleased with Cheshire Cat & wanted to recommend it to Yelp readerswith their own kitties. The clinic is devoted to serving only cats which is a great idea...with this level of specialization, they really seem to know cats & cat health well! Everyone on the staff seems to truly love cats. From the staff at the front door that care for their office cats & greet us each visit, to the vet assistants who seem to enjoy cuddling the animals, to Dr. Ann who seems to know everything about every cat condition....they all seem there to serve you & your animals. My cat had some unusual symptoms, but Dr. Ann helped me understand the disorder, gave me a variety of treatment levels & even emailed me links so I could read more about it on line. Great cat vet!!

I have been taking my cats to Cheshire Cat for years. Dr. Ann and her staff are the most knowledgeable, friendly, caring and compassionate people I have ever met. Last year I had to put down my cat, Sofie, due to cancer. The staff at the clinic treated Sofie with such dignity and respect. They helped me get through the terrible time I had adjusting to her loss after having her as part of my family for 12 years. They even sent me a condolence card where everyone wrote a message. Their handwritten notes of condolence meant the world to me. I would have no hesitation whatsoever in referring anyone who is a cat "pet parent" to Cheshire Cat.

We have taken our four cats to Cheshire Cat Clinic since the days it was in Pacific Beach. We like that they only treat cats; the cats are upset enough about going to the vet without running into dogs too. The staff has helped us with some difficult problems with our cats. We recommend them highly
