Michelle R. Metcalf, DVM

Dr. Metcalf joined the Cheshire Cat Team in April 2010

Education:   Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, 1999, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Metcalf was born and raised an only child in Indiana. She knew from the young age of ten that she would be a veterinarian and told her parents it would be so. Regretfully, her father passed away before he could see his daughter's dream realized at graduation, but her mother always knew that her daughter would become a veterinarian.

Dr. Metcalf attended college in Indiana, completing both her undergraduate and veterinary degrees at Purdue University. After passing her board exam, she practiced for a short time in Indiana before relocating to Florida. There she practiced for 3 ½ years before finally moving to San Diego, CA in 2003. Once in California, Dr. Metcalf worked closely with hyperthyroid cats and the I-131 (radioactive iodine) treatment at the Veterinary Imaging Center of San Diego before returning to private practice.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Metcalf to the Cheshire Cat Team. Although she has never worked at a hospital solely dedicated to the care of feline patients, she is experienced and up for the challenge!

At home, Dr. Metcalf shares her time with two cats, Pete, a large orange tabby male, and Sassy Pants, a Siamese mix. Sassy Pants is asthmatic and receives regular treatments from an inhaler. Despite that, she does quite well. Recently, the Metcalf home accepted a dachshund into the family!

In her free time, Dr. Metcalf enjoys running for fun and health. She will often run for charity but does not compete to win the race. Additionally, she recently enrolled in a photography class. Improving her photography skills will come in handy as she loves to travel every chance she can get. Because family is important in her life, Dr. Metcalf's mother recently relocated to San Diego to be close by.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Metcalf!
